Berlin Blockchain Week

I got the chance to attend Berlin Blockchain Week and actually talk about my “work”. During the week, I hosted a workshop @ Dappcon and delivered a talk @ Ethereum day. Outside of coding, it was probably one of the more challenging weeks I had, and I would do it over and over again.

Berlin Blockchain Week

Contributing to a public goods project, most of my time is spent researching, and coding. One thing I care less about - is actually doing non-technical stuff: collaborating with other projects, talking about why our product is important, and reaching the ecosystem why they should care about we’re building. Attending Berlin Blockchain Week proved me wrong, that these things matter more than I thought.

As a software engineer (especially in the age of AI), I realize that these things actually matter. It’s not enough that you write good code, or create great products. These things won’t matter if nobody cares.

Software Engineering is work that I’m always happy to do. But, I realize that if I want to move the needle, there is work to do outside coding, outside tech work. If I want to create impact, connecting with people is the way to go. Making people care about what we’re building, collaborating with other projects with the same mission.

Apart from technical knowledge I gained through conversations, discussions with other people, that’s one of the things I learned attending Berlin Blockchain Week. It’s always great attending conferences, it feels like I’m always learning something new, that there is always room for growth.

New things like:

  • Standing on stage to talk about my work
  • Running workshops
  • Cold approaching different people
  • Collaborating with other projects have been challenging. But on a personal level, challenges and difficulties always make me a better person. Challenges are life’s way of helping me improve.

Looking back, I've always thought that, as a software engineer, my job was to write code. Participating in conferences like Berlin Blockchain Week made me realize that professional growth can happen beyond technical work.
